PACRAT Racing overview 2011 audio-visual show

This 6 minute slide-show and video presentation was prepared by Bruce Kuper with some of his own helmet-cam footage and with photos contributed by several other racers. It was shown at the "Rat Attack" awards party at the end of the racing season, on April 15, 2011..

April 15, 2011 (Friday).

Location: The Refectory Restaurant, 1618 NE 122nd Ave., Portland, Oregon.

This was our 27th year of PACRAT racing, which got started in 1984. The theme of the evening was "Caribbean Island Style", and many people dressed the part, either as pirates or tourists, or dreadlocked Rastafaris.

1st NASTAR Race

Jan. 2, 2011 (Sunday).  This was the first ever NASTAR race organized by PACRATs on Mt. Hood, using the new wireless timing system, held at Mt. Hood Meadows, on "Stadium".  It was a great success. Approximately 100 people showed up, over half of them PACRAT racers, but also with a considerable number of the general public. The weather was perfect, the snow was good, and everyone had a good time. Olympic skier AJ Kitt was a pacesetter. Unfortunately, he was not the first one in the course (as we had expected), so we don't have video footage of him in the course. But, check out this short 2 minute video taken that day. It is posted on Vimeo at: http://vimeo.com/18452972.

Race results are posted on the NASTAR web site, www.nastar.com. Look for a "resort" named: "PACRAT".

Bib Decorating Party

January 3, 2011 (Monday).

Each year, some of the PACRAT racing teams gather for  an annual bib decorating party.  The Mt. Hoodlums team decided to try it this year, for the very first time.  It was more fun than expected.  We started off with some pizza and salad.  Then we covered the table with a sheet of platic (to protect it), and brought out our paints, markers, and glitters.

You can be the judge of our efforts!  This was also a great way to get to know some of the new members of our team.

Phil, Scott, Valerie, Erin, and Chas.

Yes, Emilio was there too!

Everybody having fun yet?

Emilio's rat has gold glitter for fur. Flames look like lava!

Chas' rat is smokin'.  Check out those clouds of smoke!

Erin has multi-colored flames!  And smoke too!

Valerie has a pink rat, and awesome flames!

Valerie is amused!

Phil added the word "Hoodlums", and mountains too!

Scott has even better mountains!

Phil adds his name to his creation.

Erin and Chas admiring their artwork.

Now, we are ready to start racing!
